Five PhD scholarships at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture

Applications are hereby invited for five PhD scholarships at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture to commence on 1 January 2011.

The PhD scholarships may apply to any of the School's subject areas, but the School particularly welcomes applications within the following themes:

  1. Three-dimensional lightweight grid load-bearing structures and their relationship with architecture (see detailed description)
  2. The language of the drawing (see detailed description)
  3. Architecture and representation (see detailed description)
  4. Mapping, GIS and Spatial Analysis (see detailed description)
  5. Graphic design (see detailed description)
  6. Open invitation

Applications will be assessed together, and each of the five best projects will be awarded a scholarship.

Conditions of employment
The scholarship implies enrolment as a PhD student and three years' employment in a salaried PhD position according to the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Tuition is provided in accordance with the stipulations of Ministerial Order no. 114 of 8 March 2002 from the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, ‘Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme and the PhD Degree’. Application
No application form is used. Candidates must submit a written application in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish or English.

Applications should be submitted in five copies and must include:

  • A project description accounting for the most important problem areas, the theoretical orientation, the methodology, the relationship with existing research, choice of materials, and a reflection on the project's perspectives, as well as a preliminary study plan (max. 5 standard pages)
  • CV
  • Documentation of educational background, other qualifications and previous work
  • A list of any publications
  • Literature, project descriptions or other enclosures may be submitted in one copy.

Written applications, marked ‘ph.d.-stipendium 2010’ , should be sent to Rector, The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, Philip de Langes Allé 10, DK-1435 Copenhagen K to be received by the School by Friday 1 October 2010, at 12:00 noon.
