The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture has been awarded DKK 6.6 million for three international Ph.D. scholarships, also known as mobility scholarships. The money was granted by the Danish Research Coordination Committee which is part of the Danish government’s Advisory and Funding System for Research and Innovation.
The scholarships fall within the subject area of 'Public/private space in a current context' taking point of departure in the presumption that what we refer to as 'public space’ has undergone a series of small, continuous changes over the years.
Trends point toward a significant increase of individually constructed, isolated and free-standing buildings placed without any consideration for the spaces between the buildings, the relations to the surroundings or the scale-gliding. Examples of these trends can be seen in Ørestad, Kalvebod Brygge and various other places around the world.
The grant for 'Public/private space in a current context' will contribute to help qualifying the ongoing international dialogue on global change.
Ph.D. scholarships are defined within the following three areas:
• Conception of public space
• Policy on public architecture
• Architecture theory as it applies to public space
