Across the world, populations are migrating towards the cities; these are densified and transformed, while peripheral regions are depopulated, changing character and meaning. This is the starting point for many of the graduation exhibition's proposals, which show in concrete visions the transformation's potentials as a source for new ways of living, new architecture and new values. The framework is global, spanning from Central European cities to New York, but with the Nordic as its pivotal point. The exhibition represents a walk through the spaces of city and landscape, recognisable and fantastic.
The graduation exhibition also offers a peek into architecture's workshop – chaotic, vibrant and satiated, ugly and beautiful. The road to architectural proposals goes through experiments and reflections inspired by sketches, and it is captured in material. Models and sketches fill the floor and walls of the great hall. From initial rough and abstract drafts to detailed and concrete proposals.
It is all included in the exhibition of this summer's graduation projects at Meldahls Smedie (Meldahl's Forge) at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture. The exhibition features 80 graduation projects from the School's departments: design, architecture, landscape design and urban planning. The exhibition also includes a small selection of this year's Bachelor projects from each of the departments.
