The Excursion exhibition focuses on the enormous boost that has taken place regarding the quality of buildings designed for sports, culture and leisure.
Excursion communicates the positive story that in spite of the crisis in so many other areas in recent years – the environment, finance and some branches of new architecture – development in the world of sports and culture has advanced from the aesthetics of body movements to increased beauty in architecture.
In other words, a movement from standardised dimensionally stable sports halls to eventful and innovative spaces.
The exhibition features selected projects that have been awarded prizes by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS), juried projects from the four Danish schools of design and architecture, works by the recipient of the 2010 Architecture Prize, and projects from the Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden).
The exhibition is supported by the Danish Ministry of Culture, the Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities, and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture.
Sports Architecture Prize and Talent Prize
In connection with the opening of the exhibition on 16 March, Denmark’s Minister for Culture, Per Stig Møller, presented the Sports Architecture Prize at 3.30 pm, as well as the 2010 Talent Prize for the best sports project among the final year assignments at Denmark’s schools of design and architecture.
These prizes were awarded by the Ministry of Culture, which has chosen to draw attention to innovation in sports architecture as part of the government’s architecture policy.
